Apparently, ADB.Miner uses part of the Mirai code for its detection mechanism for vulnerable devices, the well-known Trojan involved in the powerful DDoS attack against Dyn’s DNS. This Malware affects against Android and not only searches for smartphones, but also smart TVs and set-top boxes with the ADB debugging interface enabled on port 5555 (used by default) to infect them and then start mining Monero for their operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ADB is a command line tool that helps Android application developers to debug their creations in emulators and grants access to some of the most sensitive features of Google’s mobile operating system, however not all devices have such a tool so not all devices are at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are only two possible ways in which our Android TV or Fire TV could have been affected, regardless of whether we have bought a device in Asian markets. On the one hand there is the downloading of illegal download applications. We are not talking about the traditional ones, but about strange services outside of Google Play that offer hours and hours of free content when it is normal that they are paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another possibility is that we had the ADB activated. In that case, through another nearby affected device they could have reached your TV. But the usual thing is that this option is not activated on our television.
