As we know one of the most popular of those attacks that was the SolarWinds company case, SolarWinds provides Orion network to 300,000 customers around the world, including the USA Army, Pentagon, Department of State, Commerce, Treasury, and the US Presidential Office, among others. This entities as we know some time ago suffered a devastating attack classified as SunBurst. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was a sophisticated attack very prepared and studied at a key point in the system and one of the most interesting cases in recent times. One of those movements that, above all, shows the fragility of our cybersecurity and the need to assume those risks, be transparent and seek the maturity of the sector to fight against them. “It’s a rather hackneyed phrase, but it makes it clear that this is a chain and that a failure in the weakest link can affect us all, no matter how much the rest are more than prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But we do not come to talk about this today, today we will see the other attacks which this company has suffered, we will talk about the attacks that changed the course of cybersecurity in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25b8Moonlight maze<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In the mid-1990s, the first major cyber espionage campaign by a state intelligence agency was discovered. The case is codenamed “Moonlight Maze” and some of the details remain classified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The attackers obtained a great deal of information and, for the first time, US defense officials feared that they would leave some hidden code to sabotage their systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25b8Buckshot yankee<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2008, a USB stick loaded with malicious software (known as malware) possibly found in a parking lot at a foreign military base shook Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The attack was linked to the same group that was behind Moonlight Maze. The impact led directly to the creation of the US Cyber \u200b\u200bCommand within the Pentagon, a team created to protect sensitive networks, but also to hunt down adversaries online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25b8The democrats<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n During the 2016 US presidential elections it turned out that not one, but two hacking teams from the Russian intelligence service are singled out for infiltrating the Democratic Party. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It is reported that a team from Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, the SVR, remained undercover, but the Russian military intelligence division, Fancy Bear, had a different plan.
