IRC, also known as Internet Relay Chat, is the worldwide protocol for simultaneous conversations that allows several people to communicate in writing with each other through a computer in real time. The IRC service is structured through a network of servers, each of which accepts connections from client programs, one for each user. In this protocol, there are several different types of IRC networks, each one made up of a group of servers connected to each other. Such networks are called IRCNet, EFNet, and DALNet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To talk to someone in particular, you will need to connect to the same type of network, but you do not need to connect to the same server. You should connect to the closest IRC server, or at least the one that provides the best connection and, consequently, the best possible response time. That is, if sometimes the servers are not available and it does not allow you to connect to them, it is because they must be temporarily disconnected from the rest of the network and, therefore, you should try another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Something that should be noted about this protocol is that it has rules and you are expected to follow the IRC rules of conduct so as not to cause inconvenience to others. Whatever happens, you don’t connect to the Internet anonymously, so the moderators and even the users themselves can penalize you for bad behavior and not following the rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To use IRC for the first time, the first thing you must do is connect to an IRC server and for that you must choose one of the several there are and then execute the command \/ SERVER [IRC Server] [port]. The port is usually 6667. Also, you will need to choose a (nickname) to be recognized and voila you will be ready to use this communication method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
