GNOME 3.38 Orbis is already a reality and the latest version of one of Linux most iconic desktop environments comes loaded with improvements and new features in a version with perhaps the best performance and greatest stability to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As usual, a new version of GNOME is the result of six months of development, and its innovations include new icons, design improvements, reorganization of the application launcher, a new welcome tour for new users, a better sensor fingerprint, new parental controls, browser improvements, maps, screen recording, and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among many improvements that we can find we can mention some of them that would be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25b8Best Apps Grid<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Not only does the grid make better use of screen space where and when it makes sense, the shortcut icons are also gracefully reduced on lower-resolution displays. The ‘Frequent Apps’ tab is gone, so the developers have added support for custom positions. This allows you to rearrange and organize your applications exactly the way you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25b8New parental controls<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This means having more control of web browsing, blocking applications, etc., for the use of minors, that is why it would be called a ‘child’ account in the Users panel, now there is an option to activate parental controls. When active, this provides the above blocking options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25b8Web improvements<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n GNOME Web, also known as Epiphany, is a couple steps closer to being a viable full-time browser in this update. The biggest change? Web prevents websites from playing autoplay videos with sound by default.
