Typically, scammers spread email sextortion (Extortions) scams. However, in this case they use hacked WordPress and Blogger accounts to post these scam messages on the covers of various websites. Once visited, those websites show posts stating that the visitor’s computer is hacked and their camera was used to record a video where a visitor can be seen watching a video on some adult website. The scammers behind these scams try to trick people into paying them money by stating that they will broadcast a recorded video if they are not paid a certain amount of money.

Example of this kind of extortions in E-mail

We could give an example a long time ago there was a case that confused users by sending a message and in the body of that message you can also read that the password was obtained when accessing an adult site. In fact, most of those who have received the email in question come across a text that reads the following:

Let’s get straight to the point. I know your password is ****. More importantly, I know your secret and I have proof. You don’t know me and nobody hired me. To your bad fortune I found your misfortune. I actually installed malware on adult video pages and it turns out that you visited this website for fun. While you were watching the videos, I had access to your webcam and my program collected all the contacts from your Facebook and email, as well as the images of you watching the video. I am ready to forget everything in exchange for 1,200 dollars – payment to be made through Bitcoin.

But as we said before, this is a scam, they actually have nothing, just an email and a password, but the effect of knowing that someone has that data is usually quite dissuasive.

The best thing you can do in these cases would be under no circumstance to open any web link or attachments that are included inside these kind of irrelevant Emails, that are usually sent from some suspicious and / or unknown addresses. It is worth mentioning that cyber criminals generally disguise them as official, important, etc. Also, we recommend downloading the software only from official websites and via direct download links and like we said before, do not trust what a criminal says he only wants to scare you so that you will fall for the scam.
