While most cryptocurrency scams target social media users, scammers now use spam to promote a new “Elon Musk Club” or “Elon Musk Mutual Aid Fund” giveaway. If the recipient clicks on it, they are redirected to the ‘Elon Musk Mutual Aid Fund’, where it is explained that, if they register a bitcoin address, they will receive a donation in cryptocurrencies, do not be fooled, they promise the victim that they will they are going to deliver between 0.001 bitcoins and 0.055 bitcoins. When the donations reach those 0.055 bitcoins, the excited recipient is asked to make a small donation, to be able to collect definitively. If you do, you lose the money you hand over and obviously never receive the money that was supposed to have been donated to you.

It is not the first time that Elon Musk‘s name has been used to concoct a cryptocurrency scam, in fact, with data from the United States Federal Trade Commission, between October 2020 and March 2021, cryptocurrency fraud was committed by a A total of $ 80 million, of this amount of money, more than $ 2 million were scammed by people posing as Elon Musk, according to the FTC report.
