Like it or not, the Android world is full of viruses for all tastes. And no, the solution is not always to install an antivirus on our mobile. Trojans, adware, spyware, phishing, smishing … The threats are thousands and they are also a reality and you never know when we may run into them as the threat that has already claimed millions of victims called GriftHorse.

We are facing a Trojan that, as its name suggests, infiltrates our mobile phone through the back door, and little by little it takes control of everything. Once again the origin of this software is in the Google Play Store, the store in which the apps should presumably be free of problems of this type. But it seems that this is not the case, and this Trojan has hidden itself in various applications. The cybersecurity company Zimperium has been the first to notice the existence of the Trojan on Android, which worst of all, is taking money from the accounts of many users who have downloaded these apps without realizing it.

As is usually the case with many Trojans, they reach the mobile without our noticing, through those apps that appear to be something different and harmless. The problem is that at that moment the Trojan begins to do its thing in the background, and subscribes us to premium services, the kind that pass us a monthly fee without us practically appreciating it. It seems that this Trojan has been active and moving through Android apps and mobiles since last November. At the time, the apps that contained this Trojan were deleted from the Play Store, but despite the time that has elapsed, many users have continued to download these apps from alternative stores, and surely with downloads from unknown sources.

When we install one of the malicious applications that it uses, they will bombard us with various notifications so that we access a web page where we will have to enter our phone number. By doing this we will actually be subscribing to a paid service that will be very difficult to get rid of. Needless to say, the user who falls under the hooves of GriftHorse believes that he is inserting his phone because it has won an award courtesy of the malicious app itself, but do not believe this.

To date, GriftHorse has spread in complete silence through dozens of app stores, becoming present in up to 200 apps and that is why we must be careful with what we download even in official stores.
