RedHat is one of the main operating systems, this being well known and one of the most used worldwide, within those developed under the LINUX architecture, which are based on free software. This RedHat system was developed in the 90’s, presenting its first version in November 1994. Due to the high performance of RedHat systems, in addition to being mainly oriented to the commercial sector, the RedHat Linux system, also known as RHEL, is one of the alternatives most chosen today by small, medium and large organizations.
And so RedHat Linux was sold primarily as a server operating system. Companies that use internet servers and, like the built-in Kickstart scripting tool, allow quick setup and installation of standardized hardware. Since version 8.0, Este was mainly focused on corporate desktop PCs.
This was very well received for its main characteristics which gave very good results such as its:
▸Performance
It is one of the highest performing operating systems available for x86 computers, making it ideal for supporting the heaviest or most demanding business workloads.
▸Security
It has security technologies that provide military-level security from network firewall control to secure containers for application isolation.
▸Virtualization
Red Hat Linux can act as a host for virtual guests or it can run as a guest on supported hypervisors, including Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, VMware, or Microsoft Hyper-V.
▸Availability
Thanks to the reliability, availability and serviceability of advanced hardware, Rhels enables you to offer 99% uptime to your business users.
The origins of Red Hat Linux is that it was developed exclusively within Red Hat, with only feedback from user reports recovering from bugs and contributions to the included software packages; and not contributions to the distribution as such but as we know this changed late in 2003 when Red Hat Linux merged with the user community oriented Fedora Linux Project. The new plan is to extract the Fedora codebase to create new Red Hat Enterprise Linux distributions.
As we said before, this is not a free system in itself but of course it can be beneficial if we acquire it, if we want to have access to all available versions of RHEL and their updates, as well as to have the support and the entire range of applications and tools, we must apply for a paid subscription and create an account on the Red Hat web portal.
