What is the crime of “carding”?
Money theft or Carding is one of the main concerns for users of digital payment services and credit cards. Although they are mostly safe methods, there are several possibilities that cybercriminals take advantage of to get the sensitive information of their victims.
Carding is a form of cybercrime that is quite similar to ‘hacking’ and ‘cracking’. On the one hand, hacking is a crime through which a person, who has great computer knowledge, misuses them by trying to enter the computer system of individuals or companies and obtain their data. And, on the other hand, cracking consists of modifying a person’s software in order to eliminate their protection systems and access their personal data, including credit cards.
There are different ways in which this type of crime called carding is carried out, such as:

▸On the Internet, when you receive a fraudulent message that asks you for a number of personal data, including the credit card number.
▸With the help of phishing, another form of digital crime. This method consists of the creation of false but very credible web pages that ask for personal information from their clients.
▸Making use of malware. Viruses that install themselves on a person’s computer system and help create access to it to steal information.
Attacks on the Internet are becoming more frequent and therefore it is necessary to protect ourselves more and adequately. It is no longer worth thinking that it will never touch us, because it can happen to all of us. So we must be aware of it and act on it. The maxim “Prevention is better than cure” becomes more real than ever in the digital age we live in today.
