PopOS is the new version of the System76 distribution, an American company specializing in the sale of laptops with Linux that for a couple of years has been developing its own system, tuned for their computers, but available to anyone who wants to use it. It is based on Ubuntu and yes, it can be considered as an advantageous disciple of the original, at least as far as the desktop is concerned.
This Distro has broad Ubuntu features, which ensures an important quality standard. However, PopOS is not limited to changing the appearance of applications. In its first release it was presented as a system “carefully designed for creators, computer engineers and developers”, although it also comes well prepared to play.
In collaboration with the Elementary Project, System76 has created a new system installer with disk encryption by default, but while elementary has not yet implemented it, This is already available and the truth is that none of the major distributions Linux aimed at the home user offers this option by default, that is, it is pre-set in the system installation, although it obviously allows it to be discarded. The new installer is also very easy to use.
PopOS Features
This Distro in addition to the aforementioned stands out for the following characteristics that I will mention:
▸How fast this distribution goes even on virtual machines. It is very fast and that means that it is well optimized.
▸Its window manager to be that of all the Gnomes goes much faster than that of other reviews.
▸Its package manager as normal in all Debian distributions is apt, so it will be familiar to Linux connoisseurs.
This new Distro comes with proprietary drivers from Nvidia. For someone who is not familiar with GNU / Linux systems it can be very useful. and it is a minimalist, well-built and solid distro. It works on computers with few resources and is very friendly for users new to this world.
