Since the beginning of the pandemic until now, cyberattacks have intensified due to the increase in the use of the network. Cybercriminals have seen the opportunity to steal information and obtain confidential data, not only from organizations, but also from users. But without a doubt, companies are the ones that have been most affected by these attacks, putting their reputation and brand image at risk. Furthermore, there are many threats that we face, but today we are talking about a very dangerous threat called Ragnar Locker.

Ragnar Locker was first introduced in December 2019 as a way to attack compromised networks. Today, this threat consists of a category of malicious programs known as ransomware. Once it manages to infect a computer or an entire network, it encrypts all files to prevent their managers, administrators or owners from accessing the information. In order to regain control of this information, the victim is forced to pay a ransom in cryptocurrencies, so that it cannot be tracked.

Normally, the attacker camouflages the malicious code inside another file or program recognized for the company or user – even though it is illegal – just for the user to click. In this way, it is opening the door for malware to enter your system and infect you.

Some examples of these cloaked programs or files are:

▸Attachments in emails

▸Videos from pages of doubtful origin

▸System updates that shouldn’t really be done

Once the ransomware manages to penetrate the system, it is activated and blocks the entire infrastructure, at the same time it launches a warning message, with the threat and the amount of the ransom to pay to recover the blocked information.

For these threats, the implementation of cybersecurity solutions is key, such as: firewalls, endpoints, antiphishing solutions, backups, etc. but … However, sometimes it is not enough, since many of these threats are usually detected once they have managed to cross our barriers. That is why it is always important to be aware of what is happening in the cyber world.
