Social networks are an excellent tool to communicate, share information and many other things. But, like other great inventions, they are not without risk.

There are only a few weeks left to enter 2020 and one of the topics that will be repeated the most during the next year will be, of course, that of cybersecurity. Not only companies, but institutions, schools, families are already victims of online crime on a daily basis. That is why it is vitally important that the whole of society is up to date with the methods used by cybercriminals to be able to anticipate possible attacks.

So… What are the threats that users can be exposed to?

▸Misuse of your photos

As soon as you post an image on social media, it is beyond your control. That means that, if you’re not careful, anyone can see and use them. As if that weren’t enough, sometimes the image rights become the property of the platform.

▸Identity fraud

Anyone can take your Facebook profile picture, your name and impersonate you without your consent. The ends are varied, but almost always malicious. There have been dramatic cases of pedophiles posing as children to contact other children.

▸Malware

Social networks are one of the most vulnerable sources to infect your computer, with hundreds of viruses disguised as advertisements or publications. The most harmless ones will simply fill your mailbox with spam messages, but others can collect your most private data.

▸Unprotection of minors

Although almost all networks ask for a minimum entry age, it is no secret that children skip it to the bullfighter. They are the most vulnerable group on the internet, so parents need to be especially vigilant.

▸Fake news

Fake news has become very fashionable in recent months. It is fake news that spreads like wildfire through social networks. Its purpose is to intoxicate and manipulate public opinion.
