Like everything, within online games it is currently something very, if not the most used today due to the deversion and interaction with other people when it comes to wanting to have a good time, promoting teamwork and developing skills. It’s all good, but there are some risks that you need to be aware of to help them stay safe and have a positive gaming experience.

Getting infected with malware by using pirated products is nothing new. Those who avoided paying for software when protection was weaker will remember how their antivirus would get overwhelmed with a Trojan when it tried to run a crack. Cybercriminals who crack games also have to make a living, so they get a little extra by transforming users’ computers into robots or hosts of banking Trojans.

The procedure is the next: Scammers, or crackers, actively distribute links to their malicious sites through public and well-known sites such as Google Groups, Facebook Events and many other sites. Which include links to download what are advertised as cracks or pirated games, game mods, or other accessories for the games.

Be very careful if you plan to install mods for online games

Another danger is for example if you download a mod for an online game, people or moderators who have access to that server will be able to see the IP addresses of the users who are playing on that server, an example would be GTA Roleplay; Since GTA developers are not the ones who are in charge of the servers of this game, this is a mod in which the servers are created by users and something you must keep in mind is that you do not know who is behind those servers.

This may not apply to all servers, but there may be people who do this with malicious intent so it is necessary to take extreme caution against these game alterations or third party mods.
