Several days have passed since the release of Windows 11, but there are still many questions regarding the new operating system. Especially the obligation to have a TPM 2.0 on the computer and many people think so. Why does Windows 11 ask for a TPM module in its requirements?

There is no doubt that we are in an era in which the famous dilemma between freedom and security has reached the world of computing. Not only when it comes to the software, but also the hardware and there is nothing that bridges it to a higher level than an operating system. Which communicates the world of applications with that of hardware and from time to time creates new standards in that common space. The first thing is that many people do not know what this module is and that is why we will see what it is.

TPM modules have long been used in computing, but on PC they had not become a minimum requirement. But they not only serve to create a secure environment for the keys, but also the creation of a reliable ecosystem and with this we are not talking about “secure” which is the first thing that would come to mind. Any platform with such a chip allows the creator of the operating system to control the software and hardware that you can run on your PC.

According to Microsoft, the purpose of this implementation is to help protect encryption keys, user credentials and other confidential data behind a hardware barrier so that malware and attackers cannot access or manipulate that data, In addition, the computers of the future need this modern hardware root of trust to help guard against both common and elaborate threats, such as ransomware and more sophisticated attacks.

It may be good for security but we must not forget that today there is hardware in our PC that gives remote access to its use and with the highest level of privileges. This with a TPM module in the PC gives Microsoft the key to block the use of certain applications. And it is already known, that unfortunately gaining security often means losing freedom.
