Spam and phishing are often closely related, as scammers send mass emails with the intention of collecting information from recipients. For them, the personal data of the users is a prize and a desired value, as evidenced by publications in the media and our own spam flow analysis giving rise to email frauds. One of the most common goals is to gain access to your accounts or bank card numbers through email phishing.

As the network is very wide, criminals develop many ways to deceive us so they try to get our data and harm us, with this in mind we must know what are the methods they use and prevent ourselves.

Phishing spread throughout the world through simulations of banking entities, but now we can find it perfectly imitating our favorite social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, etc, payment systems such as PayPal or entities such as Amazon, Sony and a lot more. The objective is always the same: impersonate a website where you have an account so that you can enter your data and thus steal your identity, because our data, whether they are access to our bank account or our profiles on social networks, are worth a lot of money on the black market.

These fake notifications are also created on behalf of online brands, delivery services, booking sites, multimedia platforms, job boards, and other popular online services. Cybercriminals trust the probability that their spam messages will reach a user of these services, who will surely panic and click on the link, taking them directly to a page created by the attackers and thus infecting their computer.

We are more used to not opening files attached to email, probably because of repeating it ad nauseam. But an innocent click on a link contained in an email can be as or more dangerous than a pdf of an alleged pending invoice.

If we do not know the sender or it sounds strange, the best we can do is ignore that email and delete it and instead enter from the official page through the search engine.

The situation of economic crisis that we are experiencing around the world is encouraging more and more fraud related to job offers. Almost always coming from unknown senders who have contacted us to offer us, as we said, a “job offer” with the excuse that if you pay a certain amount of money, you will be reimbursed more.

▸Love proposals

Many years ago, security companies began to warn about the plague of fake beauties who contacted people via email because they had fallen madly in love with them. One form of this scam was that once they had established contact and conversation with the alleged “girl,” they ended up asking them for money to come to our country to meet them, and once the economic amount was transferred, they disappeared. Although this may be ridiculous, there are many people in the world who are likely to seek affection.
