In the search for an alternative social media network to Facebook, you are not alone at all. Either due to opaque conditions of use, conflicts with data protection policies or increasing publicity, although not very well known there are many other alternatives for social networks.

Other Social Media options

And that’s why here we find and see some of these:

▸Diaspora

Diaspora, the social platform built on the open source software developed in 2010 by four students, is, according to its own creators, the global social network where you have control. Supported by an involved community since 2012, Diaspora’s range of functions resembles that of Facebook: users can post status notifications and share and comment on posts and images. The audience of posts is controlled in Diaspora in a similar way, and hashtags or tags are also used to classify posts, so that other people with similar interests can be found.

▸Vero

An interesting alternative to Facebook that has been gaining followers in recent years is the Vero social network. Launched in 2015, it was at the beginning of March 2018 when its millionaire founder and CEO Ayman Hariri was finally able to declare a growth of up to more than three million users after months of veiled existence with some 200,000 active users. Not only influencer campaigns have contributed to this sudden popularity, but especially the offer of a free lifetime subscription that they announced up to one million users and later extended without a deadline.

Sharing many points in common with important rivals such as Facebook or Instagram (organization in profiles, schedule or news thread), this new platform has some peculiarities: the updates in the timeline are not filtered by any algorithm, but in chronological sequence; Contacts can be sorted into four categories, Followers, Acquaintances, Friends and Close Friends, and these groups can be defined as the target of the posts.

▸Ello

Since its foundation in 2012, the administrators of Ello have a personal mission and that is to consolidate it as the main alternative social network to Facebook and other platforms. This rules out advertising, especially that based on segmentation, since it does not send user data to third parties for advertising purposes and it is not expected to do so in the future.

Those responsible for Ello are quite creative when it comes to finding alternative sources of income. Among other things, a share of the income generated by users in transactions carried out on the network is planned.
