Red and Blue Team – what functions does they cover

The protection of technological systems and projects with tools that Cybersecurity experts dominate every day is more necessary for companies. These Red and Blue team, are the ones that apply these practices that help to strengthen security in a very radical way.

Functions covered by Red Team

A Red Team is an exercise, which consists of simulating an attack directed at an organization, which means that a group of people internal or external to the company, verify the possibility of having access to the systems, compromising them and the impact that this could get in business.

Within this exercise, only critical vulnerabilities that allow access to the organization are sought, the slightest vulnerabilities are not a priority. Another aspect of this exercise is that the organization’s teams that are going to “suffer” this attack are not warned, since what is sought is to demonstrate whether or not the organization is prepared for this scenario. The only warning is from a group of people called the White Team, who are the ones who request to do the attack and obtain the results of the exercise.

Functions covered by the Blue Team

Now, the Blue Team is a specialized level 3 service that carries out security studies that guarantee the effectiveness of the security controls deployed in an organization. The objective of the Blue Team is to carry out evaluations of the different threats that may affect clients of different organizations, they carry out a monitoring of them and establish remediation plans to mitigate the risk until there is a definitive solution.

In addition, in cases of intrusion attempts, incident response tasks are carried out including forensic analysis of the affected machines, traceability of attack vectors, proposal of solutions and establishment of detection measures for future cases.

Cybersecurity, in addition to having millions of job opportunities, is a very delicate topic to talk about since, especially for companies, the computers in which a user or company uses can contain both personal or financial information, that is why events such as those of Red Team and Blue Team are clearly in need.
