Point-to-Point Protocol is a TCP / IP protocol used to connect one computer system to another. The machines use this protocol to communicate over the telephone network or the Internet. A PPP connection exists when two systems are physically connected by means of a telephone line. You can use PPP to connect one system to another. For example, a PPP connection established between a branch office and a central office allows each of the offices to transfer data to the other over the network.

This protocol provides a standard method for transporting data diagrams of different protocols through peer-to-peer storage media. Also this protocol includes three main tiers:

▸A method of encapsulating the data diagrams of different protocols. PPP provides support for TCP / IP network-level protocols.

▸A link control protocol (LCP) to establish, configure, and test the data link connection. This protocol implements this through stream kernel extensions.

▸A family of Network Control Protocols (NCP) for establishing and configuring different protocols at the network level. PPP provides support for the Internet Protocol Control Protocol (IPCP / IPv6CP) to negotiate a TCP / IP connection.

This protocol distinguishes between client and server. This operating system can act as both a client and a server. The distinction is made to simplify configuration. PPP servers tend to allocate a pool of IP / IPv6CP addresses between the connections that are being made. There is some correlation between storage media devices.
