To date, the Microsoft operating system with the longest support has been Windows XP. Released in 2001, the operating system received security updates until 2014, or 2017 if we count the exceptional patch for WannaCry, or 2019 even for another exceptional patch released. And when everything seemed that the end of Windows 10 was going to be the last Microsoft operating system of course we were wrong.

Windows 10 was going to be the last Microsoft operating system, since it was the one that inaugurated “Windows 10 as a service”, with biannual updates and end of support for versions of more than two years, including interesting new features in each version, as the arrival of dark mode in Windows 10.

This simplifies developments and allows for as many users as possible on the latest version of the operating system.

When Microsoft announced Windows 10 in 2015, the company stated that in October 2020 the operating system would stop receiving new functionality, and that in 2025 it would stop receiving security updates and the operating system would become dead.

Microsoft quickly changed its mind, as ending Windows 10 support in 2020 would mean having released at least one new version of Windows. The problem is that the 2025 date is still valid. And the company, in its new portal in which it details the life cycle of each version, makes it very clear.

Which will be the date that will mark the end of support for Windows 10

If we go to the full technical support of Windows 10 Home and Pro, we find that the Retirement Date is October 14, 2025, the same date that they announced in 2015 that it would be the end of Windows 10. At the top the company has added a message saying Microsoft will continue to provide support for at least one Windows 10 semi annual channel through October 14, 2025.

This is quite dangerous and sets a rather curious precedent, since there is currently no rumor that Microsoft is going to launch a new version of Windows different from the current one.
