ElementaryOS Features.

ElementaryOS, an Ubuntu-based Linux distribution. It uses a GNOME-based desktop environment with its own shell called Pantheon. This environment stands out for being lighter than GNOME Shell and for its integration with other elementary OS applications such as Plank (dock) and Midori (the web browser).

Being based on Ubuntu, it is fully compatible with your repositories and packages. Since version 0.4, it incorporates its own software store, AppCenter, based on the Pay what you want model.

Its interface is inspired by the functionality and simplicity of Mac OS X, although it should be noted that it is completely designed from scratch, and aims to be intuitive for new users (such as Ubuntu Unity) without consuming excessive resources.

The elementary OS project aims to solve the noticeable deficiencies in other GNU / Linux distributions, such as:

Improve overall aesthetics through the user interface.

Reduce dependency on software by using basic applications written in the C or Vala language.

Reduce the need to access the terminal.

Since its inception it has received criticism and praise for its design, since it closely resembles OS X in terms of visual design and user experience.

Pantheon

Pantheon is the desktop environment and it is developed on the basis of GNOME software that is GTK +, GDK, Cairo, GLib (includes GObject and GIO), GVfs and Tracker

The Pantheon applications are forks of current, previous, or written-from-scratch GNOME applications:

Pantheon Greeter: Session manager based on LightDM.

WingPanel: The top panel, similar to that of Unity and GNOME Shell.

SlingShot: The applications menu on the WingPanel.

Plank: Dock based on Docky.

Switchboard: Centralized control panel.

Epiphany: WebKit-based web browser.

AppCenter: Own software store.

Mail: Email client written in Vala.

Maya: Desktop Calendar.

Noise: Music player.

Scratch: Simple text editor.

Audience: Video Player

PantheonTerminal: Terminal emulator.

PantheonFiles: File manager.

PantheonCalculator: Calculator.

Like GNOME, KDE, Cinnamon, etc., Pantheon is also a desktop environment. Pantheon is developed by the same team that builds the Elementary operating system. It is written from scratch using Vala and the GTK3 Toolkit and is widely known for its highly polished look.
