Mixxx is a free software application for DJs that allows mixing. Supports ogg and mp3 audio formats and other formats can be played through plugins. It has the advantage of being a program that can be used by both beginners and advanced users. At the same time, it is available for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.
Mixxx is a perfect free distribution application with a simple and intuitive interface. Like programs such as Traktor Pro or Virtual dj it allows the possibility of synchronizing times, perfecting the disc jockey mix. Among its features there is the possibility of using the software with midi controllers from famous brands such as Pionner, Denon, Vestax Numark, Hercules DJ Console.
Basic stuffs of Mixxx
First things first, obviously, it’s RTFM, read the manual or at least check the parts you intend to use.
The second thing is to have the minimum necessary:
▸A computer with keyboard, mouse and Mixxx installed. No matter the operating system, Mixxx is cross-platform SwL.
▸Connected and functional headphones: For the headphones to be functional it is important to note that it is essential to use a channel separator cable.
▸Ideally, add a second sound card that works as soon as you connect via USB and configure the Mixxx options so that the master uses the external card with channels 1-2 and the headphones the internal card with channels 1-2.
▸Set the other Mixxx options such as the location of your audio files (MP3, OGG, WAV) and where you want to place your mix recording sessions.
Mixxx is very powerful so it is advisable to have some previous experience as a DJ or, if that experience is not available, spend some training time testing options, recording experimental sessions and gradually improving.
